EUGENE, Ore. -- The Ems closed the gap but never got over the hump after falling behind 7-0 to the Vancouver Canadians, losing 8-5 on Saturday night at PK Park.

Art Charles had 3 doubles on the night and batted in 4 runs, helping the Canadians jump out to a 7-0 lead.

Dane Phillips got the Ems on the board in the 5th with a 3-run HR to right center, his second home run of the season, to make it 7-3.

The Ems added another in the 6th and 8th inning to close the gap to 7-5, but they could never get over the hump, falling 8-5.

The series concludes Sunday at 1:05.
