WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- The Pac-12 Conference outdoor track and field athlete of the week honors for the week of March 25-31, 2013:
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week: JOHNATHAN CABRAL, OREGON (So., Calabasas, Calif.). Cabral won the 110 meter hurdles at the Texas Relays in a nation-leading 13.33. Wind was just above legal (+2.6) or that would have been a school record and tied for the second-fastest time in Pac-12 history.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week: JORDAN HASAY, OREGON (Sr., Arroyo Grande, Calif.). Hasay was the top collegian and third overall in the 10,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational. Running her first career 10K, Hasay finished behind a pair of professional runners in a time of 32:46.68. That time leads the NCAA, ranks second in school history and fifth in Pac-12 history.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week: JULIAN WRUCK, UCLA (Jr., Brisbane Queensland, Australia). Wruck claimed a victory, as well as the meet record, in the men's discus throw (66.01m/216-7) on the final day of the 86th Clyde A. Littlefield Texas Relays. Wruck broke the UCLA record in the event for the second week in a row and leads the nation in the discus event by over 10 feet. Wruck was selected the Pac-12 Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week: EMILY HUNSUCKER, COLORADO (Jr., Arvada, Colo.). Hunsucker broke the University of Colorado’s 15-year-old hammer throw record when she recorded a toss of 60.25m/197-08 to win the Fum McGraw Quadrangular, the 15th-best mark in the nation. Hunsucker broke Janet Visosky’s record of 196-10 which was set in 1998. Hunsucker redshirted the 2012 season and has come out strong this season. She came very close to breaking the record two weeks ago at the Jerry Quiller Classic with a mark of 195-10. She won the meet last week on her last throw by almost 17 feet. It is the second time this season Hunsucker has been named Pac-12 Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
