EUGENE, OR - Churchill senior Kaytianna McMillan signed a national letter of intent with the Oregon State gymnastics team on Wednesday.

The early signing period for high school seniors began on Wednesday across the country.

McMillan took first place in the floor routine at junior nationals in 2011.  Signing with OSU was an easy decision.

"I've been wanting to got there pretty much all my life," said McMillan.  "I want to all the gymnastics meets when I was little and I always watched in awe (saying), 'I really want to do that.'  When they offered, it was definitely yes."

CORVALLIS, OR - Oregon State gymnastics coach Tanya Chaplin announced Wednesday that four gymnasts signed National Letters of Intent to join the program for the 2013-14 season.

The 2013 recruiting class consists of Megan Jimenez (Temecula, Calif./Precision Gymnastics Academy), Kana Kobayashi (Salt Lake City, Utah/Olympus School of Gymnastics), Kaytianna McMillan (Coburg, Ore./National Academy of Artistic Gymnastics) and Taylor Ricci (North Vancouver, B.C./Flicka Gymnastics Club).

“We are very excited to sign these four young women,” head coach Tanya Chaplin said. “They are talented gymnasts and excellent students with the ability and drive to become the next standouts for the Oregon State gymnastics program.”

Megan Jimenez, the daughter of Laurence and Mary Jimenez, is a five-time Junior Olympic National Championship qualifier. She won back-to-back all-around titles at the Southern California State Championships in 2010 and ‘11 and added a sixth place finish and a vault title at the 2010 Regionals, and an all-around title at the 2011 Regionals. Jimenez turned in a fourth place finish on the beam and all-around and sixth on vault at Nationals in 2010, and was fourth on beam and 14th in the all-around in 2011. In 2012, Jimenez earned second place finishes on vault, beam, floor exercise and in the all-around at the State Championships and finished third on beam and all-around at Regionals. Kana Kobayashi, the daughter of Keizo and the late Noriko Kobayashi, won a J.O. national championship on the uneven bars in 2011 and finished eighth in the all-around. She earned top honors on bars and finished fourth in the all-around at Regionals that year as well as well as state titles on bars and beam and a second place finish in the all-around. Kobayashi missed the 2012 season due to injury. Kobayashi trains at the Olympus School of Gymnastics under coaches Mary Wright and Ryan Kirkham. Click here to watch Kobayashi on YouTube.

Kaytianna McMillan, the daughter of Randy and Jill McMillan, is a three-time J.O. Nationals qualifier. In 2012, McMillan placed third on the beam and eighth on vault at J.O. Nationals after earning regional titles on vault, beam and all-around. She won the national title on the floor exercise and finished fifth in the all-around at the 2011 national championships as well as earning regional titles on vault and beam. In 2010, her first year at Level 10, McMillan garnered a second place vault finish and third on the floor at Regionals. Taylor Ricci, the daughter of Marina Ricci, performed at the Senior High Performance level in Canada. In 2012, Ricci earned first place finishes in the all-around and on beam and floor at the British Columbia Championships and finished 18th in the all-around at the Canadian Championships. She finished 10th in the all-around and sixth on the vault at the Elite Canada meet in 2011 and finished 10th in the all-around final and seventh in event finals on vault and floor at the Canadian Championships. The Beavers get the season started tomorrow, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. at Gill Coliseum with the annual Orange & Black Exhibition. Admission is free and the event will include celebrity judges and will conclude with an autograph signing by the entire team.
