Pitching propels Ems to 2-0 win over Everett

Emeralds starting pitcher Will Scott allowed just two hits and struck out five through six innings as Eugene shut out Everett 2-0 Wednesday night at PK Park.

Ronnie Richardson provided some clutch offense and defense for the Ems who now lead the West Division second half standings with a 5-4 mark.

In the top of the seventh inning, the AquaSox had two on and nobody out after a Taylor Ard infield single and a walk by Patrick Kivlehan.  But Ems relief pitcher Chris Nunn struck out the next two batters.  Then Janelfry Zorrilla looked to have a basehit to center field, but Richardson robbed Zorrilla with a diving catch to end the threat.

Richardson came through at the plate in the eighth inning.  Following a two-out walk by Alberth Martinez, Richardson drove a fly ball to deep left-center.  Zorrilla couldn't make the catch at the wall as the ball squirted away, rolling away from the wall.  Martinez scored to give Eugene a 1-0 lead on the Richardson triple.

Jonathan Roof then brought Richardson home with a single to right field.  That was all the scoring in the game as three Ems pitcher combined for a three hit shut out.  Roman Madrid came in in the ninth to close the game.

The Emeralds and AquaSox finish their three game series Thursday night with a scheduled 7:05pm first pitch.
