Sisters sweeps Sky-Em cross country titles
Eugene, OR - The Sisters Outlaws won both the boys and girls Sky-Em cross country titles on Thursday at Lane Community College.
The Outlaw girls dominated, placing their first five runners in the top ten. Sisters scored just 27 points to earn a trip to the state meet on November 3rd.
Junior Zoe Falk won the individual champion for the Outlaws in 19:59. She was the runner-up in 2011. Falk took the early lead and was never challenged.
"It was a little hard running by myself because I took the lead in the beginning," said Falk. "I was kind of in no-mans land for the entire race, but I just had to keep strong and pretend like there was somebody right behind me."
Sweet Home's Nicole Rasumussen finished second in 20:28. Cottage Grove freshman Breanna Wright was third in 21:05.
The Huskies will join Sisters at the state meet after placing second as a team.
In the boys' race, it turned into a two-man battle between Sweet Home's Jakob Hiett and Sisters' Brandon Pollard. Just before the three-mile mark, Hiett pulled away from Pollard on a short downhill slope.
Hiett, a sophomore, won in 16:37 with Pollard second.
"(I wanted to) keep my pace the entire time," said Hiett. "I felt like I kept my pace and gave it a little pop in the third mile there so I could really break away."
The Outlaws scored 30 point in winning the championship. La Pine was second with 50 points.
