OSU softball heads to Missouri for NCAA regional

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State softball team qualified for its second consecutive NCAA postseason appearance and 11th overall as the Beavers earned an at-large bid to the Columbia Regional, hosted by the University of Missouri. Oregon State will face Colonial Athletic Association champion Hofstra in the opening game Friday at 2:00 p.m. PDT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.com.

Oregon State (33-22) and Hofstra (43-11) are joined by regional host and sixth-seeded Missouri (35-11) and America East champion Stony Brook (35-23). Missouri and Stony Brook will play the second game of the regional on Friday following the Beavers’ contest, also broadcast on ESPN3.

The Beavers have little prior history with the three teams they join in the regional. Oregon State has never faced Hofstra or Stony Brook, and the Beavers are 3-0 all-time against Missouri. The last meeting between the Beavers and Tigers came in March 2004.

Each of the 16 four-team regionals is double-elimination format, with the winners moving on to a best-of-three series in the Super Regionals. The eight Super Regional winners then travel to Oklahoma City for the Women’s College World Series.
