Runners in the women's 5,000 meter race are a blur as they round the track under a large screen with their images on it at Hayward Field during the second day of the U.S. Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., Friday, June 26, 2009. The Championships run through Sunday.

EUGENE, Ore. - Historic Hayward Field hosts the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships this week.

The meet starts Thursday and runs through Sunday.

Athletes who have qualified to compete include star sprinters Tyson Gay, Michael Rodgers and 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Walter Dix in the Men's 100 M.

Nicholas Symmonds of Springfield, the Willamette University graduate who won the Olympic qualifier in the 800m in Eugene in 2008, is the top seed this year. His 2008 Olympic teammate, former Duck Andrew Wheating, qualifed for the championships but is declared as "scratched" on USA Track and Field's entry list for the 800.

But Wheating will compete as the top seed in the Men's 1500M, racing for Nike and Oregon Track Club Elite. The top 5 seeds in the race are all affiliated with Nike.

Symmonds is also listed as competitor in the 1500, as is former Sudanese "lost boy" turned U.S. Olympian Lopez Lomong.
