Huskies vs. Beavers: Postgame quotes
Head Coach Mike Riley
On the win…
“That was a great win. I think the best thing to say about our team and coaching staff is that they’ve been working, hanging in there themselves, and never quit working. It was great to see that performance today. I’m really proud of everybody.”
On the game’s critical plays…
“I think that was big time. Ryan Murphy, for a freshman player, has a lot of good instincts. He’s playing a coverage where he knew the weakness of that coverage was going to be inside, but he made it strong. He just hung in there with it, and the guy tried to get in to the inside and he wouldn’t let him go, and made a big-time play. That was a big-time play. Then the poise of getting out of the end zone, that took the whole game, right there when we made that play coming out of the end zone. The poise, even on the previous two plays, when you’re operating from the minus-one yard line or you’re inside further, you have to have a lot of poise. And then we made the big play coming out, I thought that was terrific.”
On the rushing performance and the offensive line…
“The offensive line, the tight ends, and the receivers made some good blocks on the edge too, a little bit. The games that we have won, we have rushed pretty well. Today was another example of that. That’s why I have continued to say that that has to be a part of who we are, when we get a little balance we’re a good offensive football team because we can throw the football and we have good receivers, so if we can add that balance to it we can get better and better.”
On James Rodgers breaking the Oregon State career receptions record…
“James is in good company now with all those guys up there – Mike Hass, Sammie Stroughter, James Newson…I don’t want to forget anybody. There’s just been a bunch of them, and we’re proud of everything James has done and what he’s meant to the program. His impact on the field is obvious, but his impact in all of our lives is a real thing. We’re glad to see him get that record today.”
