Go Beavs? Guv gets JELL-O if OSU wins

SALEM, Ore. -- As the governor of a state heavily dependent on lottery revenues, you'd think Gov. Ted Kulongoski would know how to place a wager.

But consider:

If Brigham Young beats Oregon State in the Las Vegas Bowl on Tuesday, Kulongoski has to send Utah Governor Gary Herbert a large selection of products from Oregon, including cheese, chocolates and a sampling of seafood.

If Oregon State wins, Kulongoski collects a basket of JELL-O, salt water taffy and the music of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Uh, go Beavers?

Here's the press release:

Governor Ted Kulongoski and Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert have agreed on a friendly wager over the outcome of the upcoming football match-up between the Oregon State Beavers and Brigham Young University (BYU) Cougars in the 17th annual Maaco Las Vegas Bowl.

"The Oregon State Beavers have a great deal of passion and talent, and I am confident they will represent the state of Oregon with pride when taking on the BYU Cougars," said Governor Ted Kulongoski.

As part of the wager, Governor Kulongoski has offered Governor Herbert a large selection of products from Oregon, including cheese, chocolates and a sampling of seafood should the Cougars defeat the Beavers.

In a Beaver's victory, Governor Herbert has offered Governor Kulongoski a gift basket including uniquely Utah products, such as green JELL-O, salt water taffy, fry sauce and beautiful music from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

The governors have also agreed to wear the victorious team's jersey if their team is defeated for a photograph to be displayed in the other governor's office.

"As a true-blue Cougar fan, I'm looking forward to an exciting bowl game and am optimistic about a BYU victory," Governor Herbert said. "I can't wait to see Governor Kulongoski in a Cougar jersey!"

The contest will take place on December 22, 2009 at 5:00 pm PST in Las Vegas, Nevada.
