'Go Beavers, go Ducks, go Oregon'
CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Mayor Charlie Tomlinson wore his yellow and green tie Monday but didn't think that would be enough to settle the score with Mayor Kitty Piercy of Eugene over the Oregon Civil War football game.
Piercy and the Duck mascot delivered a special gift to Tomlinson Monday: a tie-dyed Duck shirt and a cookbook with a few beaver recipes to try.
"I'm glad to have come up on the winning side, and I'm glad to come up here and give Mayor Tomlinson a shirt to wear," Piercy said, "but I also want to say we're proud of both teams and go Beavers, go Ducks and go Oregon."
"I have an ethics issue," Tomlinson said in accepting the gift. "I have to be careful about accepting gifts, so I am accepting this on behalf of the city of Corvallis, so we'll share it with 55,000 people in the community."
"It's great that our Oregon team is going to the Rose Bowl," Tomlinson added. "It's great than Oregon State is going to Las Vegas for a bowl, too, so we're both winners."
