A new era began (so to speak) began for the Sheldon Irish Monday for the start of two-a-day practices as Lane Johnson took over as head coach for his brother Marty.
Lane spent the previous 14 seasons as Marty's defensive coordinator. Marty remains on the staff as the offensive coordinator.
The Irish return 26 seniors including quarterback Dillon Miller who led the Irish to the quarterfinals of the 6A playoffs before a loss to Lake Oswego dethroned the reigning state champs.
Sheldon opens the Lane Johnson era on the road at West Salem on Friday September 2nd and then debuts new field turf and a roof on the grandstands for their home opener against Jesuit on the 9th.
The season premiere of High School Gameday is Friday, September 9th on KVAL-TV.
