Sheldon Football '12: Season Outlook

The high school football season got underway across the state on Monday morning with the start of two-a-day workouts. This is year number two for the Sheldon Irish under head coach Lane Johnson.

The 6A runners up from a year ago lost 24 seniors but have 23 more this season.

The last time the Irish won a state title was in 2009, that's when this senior class were freshman.

After the sting of last seasons 47-14 loss in the 6A championship game to Lake Oswego (Sheldon's lone defeat of the year), the Irish are hungry to get back to the top of the mountain.

They will do it behind a new starting quarterback. Senior Taylor Alie takes over in a line of great QBs from Sheldon including Alex Brink, Jordan Johnson and Dillon Miller.

Connor Strahm and his white sleeves are back as a main target for Alie to throw to as well.

The Irish open up the 2012 campaign at home against Southridge on Friday August 31st.

Western Oregon's longest running and hardest hitting high school football highlights show, High School Gameday, returns on Friday September 7th on KVAL-TV.
