High School football games to watch for week #3

Here is a look ahead at some of the Western Oregon high school football games we'll be following on Friday, Sept. 25.

SOUTH EUGENE VS. THURSTON: The 2nd ranked and unbeaten Colts face a stiff test at home against a revitalized group of Axemen who seem to be adapting well to their new fast paced offense. This should be the game of the night.

NORTH EUGENE VS. SPRINGFIELD: Homecoming at Silke Field as the Highlanders and Millers kickoff Midwestern League play.

SUTHERLIN VS. MARIST: The Bulldogs may struggle at Marist, but most teams do. The #1 team in 4A has not scored less than 45 points in the first 3 games.

ELMIRA VS. JUNCTION CITY: Winless on the season, the Tigers hope for some home cooking against the Falcons who would like the short bus trip to end their own 2-game losing skid.

MARSHFIELD VS. GRANTS PASS: The Pirates have a strong team this season, and the 5A usually has trouble with 6A schools, but Marshfield could hang with the Cavers.

MAZAMA VS. CHURCHILL: After a tough matchup at Sheldon in week one, the Lancers have used 28 points in each of their last two wins. Oddly enough, the Vikings have scored 28 points in 2 of their 3 wins as well.

ALOHA VS. ROSEBURG: No longer ranked in 6A, the Indians hope Aloha means "good win" but the Warriors defense has been very good in their 3 victories, allowing just 24 points.

WOODBURN VS. WEST ALBANY: After an amazing finish at Hillsboro, the back-to-back champion Bulldogs look to grab an early season victory in the Mid-Willamette League.

LEBANON VS. SOUTH ALBANY: Both teams have dropped two straight prior to the MWL opener.

SILVERTON VS. CRESCENT VALLEY: The Raiders have been dominant on both sides of the ball this season, but Silverton is also unbeaten on the young season.

DALLAS VS. CORVALLIS: Winless in 2009, the Spartans expect their fortunes to change against the Dragons. Dallas has been hard luck losers in both of their contests.

ASHLAND VS. WILLAMETTE: Speaking of hard luck, the Wolverines just can't buy a break. Two one-point losses and a 21-14 defeat against Klamath Union. Willamette looks to ride high at home against the Grizz.

OAKRIDGE VS. NORTH DOUGLAS: Warriors, Warriors. The 2A Mountain View season revs up with a great rivalry.

COTTAGE GROVE VS LA PINE: Without a win in three games, the Lions can salivate on a trip to La Pine.

PLEASANT HILL VS. SISTERS: Lucky for the Billies, they get to travel over the pass before Old Man Winter awakes. P-Hill is off to an early 3-0 start.

NEWPORT VS. SIUSLAW: Unbeaten against winless, the Vikings want to get it right at home against the Cubbies.
