A group of five sophomores were key components to Sheldon's run to the 6A state championship in 2007.  One of those sophomores, now a senior, is John Campbell who plays an even more significant role for the Irish this season.  In fact, the Sheldon coaches can hardly keep Campbell off the field.  The wide receiver and defensive back is on the gridiron for every play except punt return and kick off.

"He'd be a kid that could probably play every play of every game and love every second of it," said Sheldon head coach Marty Johnson.

That's what partly makes Campbell very reliable.

"You always know where he's going to be,"  said Irish senior quarterback Jordan Johnson.  "He's so dependable.  His routes are perfect.  Nobody can guard him."

Campbell has been an incredibly valuable asset to the Sheldon varsity squad for three years now, including lending a helping hand on the '07 state championship team.

"Being on the varsity my sophomore year was great," said Campbell.  "All those guys were a great group of guys and it was a great season and hopefully this year we can try to replicate what happened my sophomore year."

All that varsity experience has seasoned Campbell into an acknowledged leader of the Irish.

"He's the guy we look to," said Jordan Johnson.  "People on the outside probably think they always look at the quarterback.  He is a leader, but it's really John Campbell."

"(I'm) the guy people are looking to when they don't know what to do," said Campbell.  "Then you've got to be the one who does his talking with his helmet and his shoulder pads.  Let your play do the talking."

And the reliable John Campbell definitely delivers on that.
