EUGENE, Ore. -- It was a spook-tacular evening of high school football across the lower Willamette Valley on Friday, highlighted with top-ranked Sheldon taking on cross-town rival South Eugene.

In the opening quarter, Irish quarterback Jordan Johnson scrmabled to find John Campbell in the endzone, and Sheldon was up 7-0 early. Also in the first, Johnson found Curtis White on a screen pass for a touchdown, and the Irish were looking at a comfortable 14-0 lead. The Irish also forced a safety in the first quarter, and after that, South had no chance. Sheldon cruised to a 57-7 win to stay unbeaten.

Another big game in the Eugene area took place between Churchill and Thurston. Both teams were 3-0 in conference play heading into tonight's match-up.

In the third quarter, Chance Hendrickson threw a long pass to reciever Jordan Loos down to the Churchill three, which led to a short touchdown, and Thurston led 28-7. Later in the quarter, Hendrickson ran 37 yards for the touchdown and Thurston was cruising, 35-7. Led by Hendrickson's 222 yards rushing, the Colts knocked off Churchill 41-7.

Marshfield traveled to Silke Field to take on the Millers of Springfield, and early on it looked like it would be a close game. In the second quarter, Springfield's Levi Green found Nick Dillingham for the touchdown, to tie the game at seven a piece. But later in the same quarter, Marshfield's Kyle Tedder ran one in for a touchdown to give the Pirates the lead for good, 14-7, and Marshfield would go on to win 50-7

North Eugene hosted Willamette on senior night, but the game belonged to the Wolverines. North Eugene got off to a fast start, as sophomore Demerick Taylor returned the opening kickoff 88 yards for the score, and the Highlanders took the early lead. North got another score later in the first, when Michael Bibbeeran it 50 yards for the score, and the Highlanders were looking good. But Willamette's defense stepped up immensely after that, and the Wolverines kept North winless in league play with a 36-22 win.

In 4A play, Marist took on Pleasant Hill. With a win, Marist would secure the Sky-Em conference title. In the second quarter, Spartans quarterback Tevin Cheever connected with reciever Jeff Bedbury, who rumbled through defenders for a 41-yard score, and at that point, Marist was up 28-0. On the night, Cheever connected with Bedbury for four touchdowns, and Marist rolled over the Billies, 62-0.

Douglas also took on Sutherlin on Friday night, as the Bulldogs held on against the home team, winning 21-13.
