Nov. 13th, 2009 - Part 1
EUGENE, Ore.-- The final edition of High School GameDay is a special playoff edition, and to start off, No. 1 Sheldon hosted Tigard on Friday night.
The Irish got off to a fast start, scoring on their first play of the game. Jordan Johnson kept it himself for a 30-yard touchdown, and Sheldon was up 7-0. Later in the quarter, Tigard's 26-yard field goal attempt was blocked by John Campbell, and Campbell ended up returning it 77 yard for a touchdown to extend the Irish lead to 14-0. In the second quarter, Johnson found Campbell for the touchdown from 44 yards out, and then near the end of the period, Johnson scored once again on a 40-yard keeper, and Sheldon rolled 71-26.
Roseburg, on a four game winning streak, hosted Barlow on Friday. In the first, Thaddeus Davis threw to Micah Audiss for a touchdown, and the Indians were up 7-0. In the second quarter, Roseburg's Josh Weaver ran for a touchdown from 45 yards out to extend the lead 21-0. Later in the game, Audiss scored a touchdown on defense as well, returning an interception 75 yards for the score, and Roseburg cruised to a 47-7 victory over the Bruins.
In 4A play on Friday night, Hermiston defeated Marshfield 42-20, ending the Pirates' season. The Bulldogs will take on Crater in round two next week.
In Lebanon, the Warriors hosted sixth-ranked Glencoe. In the first quarter, Glencoe's Tanner Apeland threw a 47-yard yard pass to Derrick Elford down to the three, and the Crimson Tide scored on the next play to go up 7-0. At the end of the first, Lebanon's Adam Colwell ran for a 50-yard touchdown, and it was 7-6 Glencoe. In the second period, Apeland threw a touchdown pass to Hayden Plinky for a 47-yard touchdown, and the Tide was up 14-6. The rest of the game was back and forth, but Glencoe would win with a field goal with ten seconds to go, and the final score ended up 36-35.
The Dalles-Wahtonka beat Corvallis on Friday night, and the Eagle-Indians will take on Thurston next week.
In 2A action, Central Linn hosted Nestucca on Friday night. Offense was hard to come by in this game, but in the third, Nestucca's Tyler Nathe blocked a punt and returned it himself for a touchdown, and the Bobcats were up 14-0. The Cobras couldn't muster up too much after that point, and Nestucca ended Central Linn's season with a 24-13 win.
