Millers defense dominates Wilsonville

The Springfield Millers are off to a great start in defense of their 5A state basketball crown. The Millers used their defense to shut down Wilsonville in the quarterfinals of the state tournament at Matthew Knight Arena in a 59-15 victory.
Mercedes Russell scored 25 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead Springfield which led 44-6 after three quarters.
Nicole Duncan added 10 points and seven boards for the Millers who advance to the semifinals on Friday. Springfield will play Bend at 1:30pm. The Lava Bears beat Hermiston 49-39.
