Santiam Christian wins 3A State Championship
Jeff Hendrix delivered a 47-yard field goal as time expired helping the Santiam Christian Eagles capture the 3A State Championship Saturday at Hillsboro Stadium, 31-28 over the Dayton Pirates.
Hendrix also scored two touchdowns.
After falling short in the title game a year ago to Rainier, the Eagles got it right.
Head Coach David Lange called it, "story book stuff."
"These guys will be coming back in 10 years with all of these memories and all of these bellies they will have and it will be fun for them," Lange added.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) — Jeff Hendrix kicked a 47-yard field goal as time expired to lift Santiam Christian to a 31-28 win over Dayton in the OSAA Class 3A state football championship game Saturday at Hillsboro Stadium.
Hendrix also ran for two touchdowns for Santiam Christian (13-1). It was the first state football title for the Eagles, the state runner-up in 2010.
Hendrix's game-winning field goal capped a wild fourth-quarter, where Dayton erased a 28-14 deficit by scoring two touchdowns during the game's final five minutes.
Santiam Christian led 14-7 at halftime, but a 52-yard run by Dayton's A.J. Hedgecock late in the third quarter tied the game. The Eagles went up 28-14 early in the fourth when Anthony Alaire and Hendrix each ran for scores.
Dayton tied the game with 1:08 remaining on a 10-yard run by quarterback Nate Bernards.
Hedgecock ran 25 times for 178 yards for the Pirates (12-1), who have won six state titles. .
