Roper gets nod to QB opener for the Ducks
By Associated Press
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- The 21st-ranked Oregon Ducks expect to start sophomore quarterback Justin Roper when they open the season Saturday night against rival Washington.
In a conference call with Seattle reporters Monday, coach Mike Bellotti said he doesn't think Nate Costa will be able to play. Costa was the presumptive starter when fall camp began. But last week he injured his surgically reconstructed left knee in practice. He's going to the team doctor Monday. Bellotti says Costa was walking without a limp and the swelling has gone down. Roper threw for four touchdowns in Oregon's Sun Bowl victory over South Florida last year and played well in scrimmages during camp this summer. (Copyright 2008 The Associated Press.) |
