Beavers can't find rhythm on offense, lose to No. 17 Cincinnati

Bearcats quarterback Tony Pike passed for 332 yards and totaled three touchdowns, two through the air, and one on the ground. The Cincinnati defense was just as impressive, holding Beavers running back Jacquizz Rodgers to 73 yards rushing and never allowing a play for more than 26 yards. Beavers quarterback Sean Canfield finished 29-45 for 248 yards and one interception. His primary target was James Rodgers, who had 12 catches for 98 yards and ran the ball ten times for 59 yards. The Beavers got on the board first, with a 46 yard field goal by kicker Justin Kahut. Kahut added another field goal midway through the first quarter to extend Oregon State's lead to 6-0. At the beginning of the second quarter, Pike ran one in from seven yards to get the first of three Bearcat touchdowns in the period. However, a few minutes later, Bearcats running back Jacob Ramsey was tackled in his own endzone, and that gave the lead back to Oregon State 8-7. With just less than seven minutes remaining in the second quarter, Cincinnati's Isaiah Pead rumbled his way in from one yard out to give the Bearcats the 14-8 lead. And just before halftime, Pike through a touchdown pass to reciever D.J. Woods to extend Cincinnati's lead to 21-8. Woods finished the day with seven receptions for 117 yards and one touchdown. In the second half, the Beavers seemed to have regained momentum after a nine yard touchdown run from Jacquizz Rodgers and another Kahut field goal. However, the Bearcats added another touchdown pass from Pike, this time to Marshwan Gilyard, as well as a late interception to seal the victory. Next weekend, the Beavers face off against Pac-10 opponent Arizona in Corvallis. |
