PAC 10 PREVIEW: Sun Devils chill out to prepare for season
By Tom Ward and KVAL Web Staff
TEMPE, Ariz. -- With a 10-and-3 recordin his first season as head coach of the Arizona Sund Devils, Dennis Erickson was named the Pac 10 coach of the year. So what does the former Beaver head man do for an encore in Tempe? How about more of the same? It's being referred to as *"he house that Dennis built." The Pac 10's fifth indoor practice facility cost the better part of $ 8 million dollars but has raised expectations in the sweltering Valley of the Sun -- in addition to lowering the practice temperature some 30 degrees. The Sun Devil offense was second only to Oregon in points scored in 2007, averaging more than 32 points per game. And with senior quarterback Rudy Carpenter and his 65 career touchdowns returning, the Devils figure to air it out again this season. One minor wrinkle in the classic Erickson spread: ASU will utilize more three step drops for carpenter, allowing the senior to distribute the ball to some talented wideouts in Michael Jones and Chris McGaha. |
