Who will win the Rose Bowl? Computer model predicts game

EUGENE, Ore. -- The winner of the 2009 Oregon Civil War will face Ohio State in the Rose Bowl.

Whether the Ducks or the Beavers spend New Year's Day in Pasadena, Calif., it ought to be a great game.

The AccuScore game forecast computer, which runs thousands of game simulations under various conditions, currently predicts Oregon will win the Civil War, regardless of the scenario.

If that proves true, AccuScore also predicts a win for the Ducks in the Rose Bowl: Based on current conditions as of Dec. 1, the forecast shows Oregon winning 62 percent of the thousands of simulations by an average score of Oregon 27 to Ohio State 21.

Not so fast: the Beavers want payback.

In the event the Beavers win the Oregon Civil War, AccuScore shows Ohio State winning 55 percent of the simulations by an average score of Ohio State 26, Oregon State 22.

But what do computers know? AccuScore has only been 70 percent accurate this season in predicting the outcome of Duck and Beaver games and 74 percent accurate for the Pac-10 as a whole.
