Burton breaks down barriers
For Oregon State freshman Joe Burton, the game of basketball has been a saving grace. Growing up on the Soboba Indian Reservation, shooting hoops gave him a chance to escape some of the pitfalls that consumed some of his peers.
When Burton signed his letter of intent to play for the Beavers, he became the first Native American player to earn a scholarship to play basketball for a Pac-10 school.
Joe says, "my tribe in California, no one really gets out. Sometimes they don't even graduate high school. It's a big for me and for the tribe and for the chief over there. Just like, you know showing everyone else that you can do it."
