In honor of the sports that have made Eugene famous, the Maude Kerns Art Center is pleased to present “Track Town USA,” opening on Friday, May 30, with a reception from 6 – 8 p.m. The exhibit is on display through July 11.

The exhibit coincides with the Olympic Team Trials in Eugene at historic Hayward Field, only a few blocks from the Art Center. “Track Town USA” features the work of 11 artists juried from a national call: Carol Arian, Gary Fish, Kris Ibach, Paula Mance, Jerry Ross, SIdonie Caron, John Giustina, Mike Leckie, Ryan Pancoast, Steve Schweitzer, and Alisa Scudamore. Also on display are a group of The Register-Guard’s photographs of track and field related subjects that have appeared in their “Best of the Year” collection. Title Sponsors for this exhibit are Ronald E. Lee and Cookie Lee.’s

Of particular note are the photographs on canvas by John Giustina, a professional freelance photographer based in Eugene. Giustina began shooting track and field events at the University of Oregon in 1988 and has since covered the Olympic Trials in New Orleans, the Olympic Games in Atlanta, and other high profile meets in Eugene for Track & Field Magazine. This is John’s first gallery showing of his canvas printed works.

The exhibit also includes monumental paintings by local artist Kris Ibach, elegant black and white photographs by Portland artist Alisa Scudamore, oil paintings by Connecticut artist Ryan Pancoast, and bronzes and hydrostone bas reliefs created specifically for Olympics ’08 by Mike Leckie of Eugene.  

The Maude Kerns Art Center, located at 1910 E. 15th Avenue at the corner of 15th and Villard, is Eugene’s oldest non-profit community center for the visual arts. Gallery hours are from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday – Friday, and noon to 4:00 pm on Saturday when exhibits are on display. There is a $3 requested donation.
