EUGENE, Ore. - A man in Eugene hopes to cash in on the Olympic Trials and his own brute strength.

Wayne Beckwith got the go-ahead from the city Monday to open and operate his business called Pedal Junkies.

Pedal junkies plan to have four bikes in operation by the Olympic Trials.

"I'm gonna carry cold beverages during the trials," Beckwith said. "I was even talking about a stereo system but I decided against it for now at least."

He also hopes to give partiers an alternative to drunk driving and gas guzzlers an eco-friendly option Wednesday through Saturday evenings.

"They can find us between campus and downtown," he said. "That's the highest concentration of people."

One local couple has already hired pedal junkies for their wedding, wanting something unique for the big day.

"They want everyone to bike to it and those that can't they want us to take them there," he said.

And even though Wayne's transportation business doesn't require gasoline, he still spends money on fuel.

"I'm burning calories instead of gas so my grocery bill is going up," he said.
