COOS BAY, Ore - Just in time for the upcoming Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, the newly renovated Prefontaine Gallery is back open and ready for visitors.

In anticipation of extra visitors coming to the Coos Bay area during the trials, the Prefontaine Memorial Committee began a major renovation project two months ago which included repainting the gallery, refinishing the floors and conference table, re-matting photos and new lighting.

Committee Executive Director Bob Huggins said the gallery hasn't had a remodel since it opened in 1985, and with the Olympic Trials in less than a month, they felt now was as good a time as any.

"We get a lot of people that take trips to Oregon to see where Pre ran, many go to Hayward Field, then come down here, run on the track and come to the gallery," said Huggins.

Some of the gallery has remained the same, including the trophy case, built by Pre's father, which contains a number of medals, trophies and a pair of old running shoes.

In July, the museum will open a new exhibit featuring some old photographs all taken by Pre himself from his travels around the world.
