EUGENE, Ore. - University of Oregon student Galen Rupp won the second semifinal in 13:59.14, posting a slower time than 2000 Olympic Trials champion Adam Goucher.

"Coming in, the best thing was to work out the kinks and feel the atmosphere. That's what it's all about. It was a great dress rehearsal today, and I'm going to get ready for the final," Rupp said. "My focus is on the 10k, but we will see how things go."

The men's 10,000 meter final starts at 9:20 p.m. on the Fourth of July. Goucher's wife, Kara, qualified to go to the Olympics in the women's 10,000 meter June 27. READ MORE

According to U.S.A. Track and Field, the men's 5,000m semifinal rounds were slow and tactical in preparation for Monday's final at 9:40 p.m.

Matt Tegenkamp, fourth at the 2007 World Outdoor Championships, won a first heat that included world champion Bernard Lagat and 2000 Olympic Trials champion Goucher in 13:54.62.

"I felt really comfortable, like going for a Sunday jog," Goucher said. "I was really boxed in, so it took me about 400 meters to get around everybody and get out.

"I'm excited for where I'm at right now. I'm in the best overall fitness I have ever been in. Feeling really good."

Rupp answered concerns about his fitness.

"There has been some speculation about me, and my health, but obviously if I wasn't feeling well, I would have backed off and took top six," he said. "Sunday is the day I will have to make a decision."
