Laina Holmgren broke a 5-5 tie in the top of the sixth inning Wednesday with a two-run home run as the Churchill Lancers went on to defeat The Dalles Wahtonka 7-6 in the first round of the OSAA softball playoffs.

Sheldon junior Haleigh Krause fired a final round one-under 71 to finish in third place five-shots back at the 6A State Golf Championships at Quail Valley in Banks. The Irish won the team title at +48, good for a 17-stroke win over West Linn with a second round state record 306.
