Despite earning bronze medalist honors at last year's Olympic Trials, Oregon grad Rachel Yurkovich failed to make the U.S. Olympic team... not meeting the standard mark to make it to Beijing.
However, with a top three finish today, Yurkovich would almost ensure herself a trip to the world championships in Berlin.
She had the best mark going into the finals and on her fifth throw, Yurkovich lets loose with her best effort of the day... 194-feet, seven inches.  However, Vancouver's Kara Patterson bettered Yurkovich on her fifth throw... 209-feet, 10 inches for the victory.  That's the second best American mark ever.
Yurkovich did finish second to get closer to the world championship team.
