EUGENE, Ore. – For the 3rd straight game the Emeralds fell behind early, and Wednesday night at PK Park they lost their third straight game, 5-1. Erik Schoenrock spent the first two innings out of the stretch after surrendering leadoff singles to Kentrell Hill and Shilo McCall. In the 2nd, Salem-Keizer used a sacrifice bunt to setup a two-run single from 2B Christian Otero. In the third, a one-out walk to SS Brandan Bednar came around to score when Sam Eberle singled him home making it 3-0 Volcanoes.
Hill and Bednar started the 5th inning with a pair of doubles and Sam Eberle made it 5-0 Salem-Keizer with an RBI Single. That would be all the scoring the Volcanoes would need behind starting pitcher Jose Reyes who picked up his second win of the year going five innings giving up just three hits and a couple of walks. Jacob Smith came out of the bullpen for Salem-Keizer and didn’t skip a beat allowing just one base runner over two innings while striking out five Emeralds.
Eugene made some noise in the bottom of the 8th with a two-out rally consisting of a Fernando Perez double followed by a Trae Santos RBI-single. Arturo Maltos-Garcia closed out the game in the 9th by striking out the side in order.
The Ems have dropped three in a row but they will look to get back on tract Thursday night in the finale of this 8-game homestand. First pitch against Salem-Keizer is scheduled for 7:05pm.
