Generals fall short to Totems to open homestand
EUGENE, Ore. - The Eugene Generals (17-16-2) had an uphill battle tonight in their 4-1 loss to the Seattle Totems (27-4-2).
After tonight's game, Seattle continued its winning streak against the Generals this season, and extending their streak to six games.
The Totems were the first team to get on the scoreboard tonight.
Totems forward Giovani Midili scored the first goal of the night 8:11 into the first period.
After battling behind the net and working his way to the front, Midili shot the puck at Generals goalie Gabriel Mier y Teran, who gave up a rebound. Midili colected his rebounded shot and put it in the back of the net.
Before the first period was over, Generals forward Kirby Carlson smashed a Totems player into the boards with a thounderous hit that shattered the plexiglass board. After a quick break in the play, the plexiglass board was replaced and the game resumed.
Each team scored one goal in the second period.
Totems second leading scorer, Ricky Doubrava, scored on a breakaway after going five-hole on Mier y Teran. Doubrava scored 5:45 into the second period.
Generals forward Zak Johnson threw the puck at the front of the net, only to have it deflect off of a Totems player and find its way into the back of the net; giving the Generals their single goal of the contest. Johnson's goal was scored 14:24 into the second period.
The Totems held the Generals scoreless in the third period, and scored two goal themselves.
Totems third leading scorer, Cameron Hoffman, took a wristshot from the slot. The puck found its way though Mier y Teran's legs and into the back of the net. Hoffman's goal was recorded at 13:34 into the third period.
Midili scored his second goal of the night after Mier y Teran made a sprawling save on Midili's first shot. Unfortunately, Mier y Teran's save was not enough, and for the second time tonight, Midili collected his rebound and put the puck into the back of the net. Midili's goal was scored 17:08 into the third period.
