While on a trip to eastern Oregon we stopped by the semi-ghost town of Sumpter. This old gold dredge was scooping up river rock and gold for many years until closing down in the early 1900's. You can walk through this interesting old dredge. Sometimes there is even a ranger inside to explain the workings of the dredge. They also have a small visitors center. If you're ever in the area it's worth the short drive off Hwy 7, a short distance west of Baker City. Mike.
