Sunday afternoon I was hiding in my basement from the possibility of trees falling on my house while speaking on the cell phone with my daughter in Portland. I opened a door and held the phone out so she could hear the extraordinary sounds of the storm. At that second we heard three very large cracks! followed by by earth-shaking thuds. I expected they fell within feet of my house, it was so loud! The next day I found the downed trees and discovered one large hollow ash tree had fallen and trapped this little raccoon's tail between 2 long slabs of the exterior shell of the tree. The raccoon must have sheltered in the hollow for protection from the storm and it nearly became his crypt as he'd have died if we had not rescued him.
This raccoon spent 20 hours trapped in a hollow tree it had sheltered in while Sunday's storm raged around him. When the tree fell down his tail was trapped by splintered slabs of the trunk. My neighbor and I were able to rescue him the day after the tree fell.

How did you rescue him without him tearing you to shreds?
