Today is Saturday, May 21st, 2011. It is the third (3rd) Saturday in May, which has been set aside by an act of Congress to honor the members of this Nation's Armed forces.
Most Americans are aware that, as a Nation, we have set aside special days to honor those who have SERVED in our Armed Forces (Veterans' Day) and those who have DIED while in service to our Country (Memorial Day). But most Americans are less aware that, as a Nation, we have also set aside a day to honor those who are CURRENTLY serving in our Armed Forces. TODAY, Saturday, May 21st, 2011, is that day: "Armed Forces Day"!
One of the BEST ways to commemorate Armed Forces Day and honor our servicemen & servicewomen is by flying our Nation's Flag!
Since I have the official Flags of all five of our Nation's Armed Services, I decided to fly them too, along with our State Flag (Oregon) and the POW*MIA Flag.
The eight (8) flags we've posted out in front of our house to celebrate ARMED FORCES DAY are (from left-to-right in their correct order) : U.S., State of Oregon, U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, and the POW*MIA Flags !!!
Using 60 pound concrete blocks as flagpole holders, all eight (8) Flags were mounted on eight foot (8') wood flagpoles, and spaced across the yard in front of our house on Donovan Drive.
A BIG, heart-felt "THANK YOU" goes out to ALL of our service men & women wherever they may be serving our Country !!!
THANK YOU !!!
