22 degree sun halo

22 degree sun halo or sun dog

Today's 22 degree sun halo (a referance to it's size) was spectacular for the darkness of the inner circle. Generally a good indication that we will se rain within the next 24 hours. I've also included a piture of a recent "sun dog" that was visible at work. Sun dog refers to the blob of rainbow that can form to the left and right of the sun from passing through high thin ice crystal clouds. I used a street lamp head to block out the sun so the colors would show more true to life in the photo.
