Our family went to the fair on Wednesday, August 17, 2011. The boys got to ride on the rides and see some of the many attractions. This was our youngest son's (Nathaniel) first trip to the fair and his big brother's (Matthew) second.
The fun-houses were one of the best "rides" according to my boys. They went on every one, and even went on one particular fun-house twice (the one with the spinning barrel at the end). They loved that they were able to take each fun-house at their own pace and enjoy it.
The mechanical rides were fun, but Nathaniel was a little weary about trying them at first. In fact, there were almost tears when he went on his first. However, as soon as it started going, he was laughing and having a blast.
The second picture shows an airplane ride that would speed up as it whipped around the corners and then slow a little on the straight stretch. Both boys loved it, but handled it in different ways. Matthew was having a blast and so at ease. In the second picture he's making a face at his dad as he flew by! Nathaniel was giggling and smiling and generally having a good time... but didn't let go of the handle bar!
The very first ride either boy wanted to go on was the canoe ride (the last picture). I had a picture of Matthew on this ride when he was about 4 (his first, and only, trip to the fair)... and Nathaniel really wanted to go to the fair because of this one picture.
We were able to do the fair this year, in part because of a great deal I was able to find which made it so much more affordable and within our budget.
On June 20th I was able to buy 4 Lane County Fair season passes for only $19 from Groupigg - and because this was able to come out of our budget well ahead of time, it saved us even more in the end. This was cheaper then buying entrance for our family for just one day. It was even cheaper then buying entrance for only one adult and the two boys!
We spent $33 on rides for our two boys, using the $1.50 deal day also. Each boy got to go on 10 rides, plus there was one ride that the four of us went on together.
We brought our own snacks and water bottles, ate lunch before we left and went home for dinner (Nathaniel is almost 5 years old and Matthew is 7 years old... so 5 hours spent at the fair was enough for one day).
We spent $14 on an ice cream treat for each of our family of four. This was our treat for the day. We don't normally get individual ice creams, so the fact that each boy got to pick out his own was a major deal for us.
We also bought from two vendors whom we were considering buying from outside of the fair ($29.99), but saved money on when we purchased at the fair.

Because we have the season passes, we'll be heading back to the fair to check out the other attractions and events. However, we'll be bringing our own snacks and water again, and most likely not be spending any money on the rest of our visit.
