The Umpqua River Bridge on U.S. Highway 101 opened in 1936. No dedication ceremony occurred at that time due to the unavailability of President Franklin Roosevelt. The ceremony was postponed indefinitely. At 3pm today, the bridge will open and close, followed by a ribbon cutting and cars from the 1910's, 1920s and 1930s will cross the bridge. It will finally be officially dedicated. This is the only bridge in Oregon that still uses a swing span. It was designed by Conde B. McCullough, Oregon's Master Bridge Designer and Builder.
