My father-in-law and I take daily walks around the neighborhood out west Eugene. Today I spotted this bare branches tree hung with what looked like orange plastic ornaments. After all it is December so it couldn't be fruit, right? Well, on closer inspection it turns out these oval-shaped orange objects are fruit! I took a number of photos so you can see that some of the pieces are past ripe and really fruit. At first I thought maybe these were kumquat, but wikipedia says kumquats are olive sized and these ojectes were 4-4 1/2" long by 3-3 1/2" wide. I'd be delighted if someone could identify them. It just struck me as amazing that there would be a tree of any kind filled with fruit on a leaf-less tree in early December anywhere in Oregon except a hothouse, maybe.
