Eugene RC Aeronauts put on a fantastic Memorial Day Fun Fly in Eugene, Oregon on Monday. Flying started at 9am and the fun continued until 6pm when the last die hard pilots packed up for the day. Approximately 40 pilots showed up from all over Oregon and Washington with there planes which drew a crowd of over 50 guests and visitors. The youngest pilot in the group is just 6 years old and flew his planes with great skill.
Over 50 aircraft of all types were on display ranging from P51's, P47 Razorbacks, B-25 twin engine, Helicopters to the modern day giant scale aerobatic planes. They were truly a joy to watch as they pierced the mid-day sky with grace and authority.
A BBQ was turning out hamburgers and hot dogs all afternoon for the pilots and guests while music was sounding the old war anthems of past years. This was one of the most exciting events this pilot has ever attended.
Eugene has some of the best flying weather all year round and Memorial Day was no exception. Even though we had some sprinkles early in the morning the weather cleared up and there was virtually no wind all day. The club has been around for over 30 years and has a current roster of 74 members. Eugene RC Aeronauts is one of 64 registered AMA clubs in Oregon and members fly at the field almost daily.
