Nice Weather and I was walking down a sandy beach . Suddenly the sand moved and I nearly stepped on a squirrel ! I did not see it at all and did not know there were " SAND SQUIRRELS" at the beach! I am from the Colorado mountains . The "camouflage" sand spotted coloring on these critters is absolutely AMAZING ! I had to get one on the pavement just to see it all on camera ! Watch were you step and look out for them on your ATV's....Beautiful animal indeed !

Very cool and "artsy" shot of the tire and shoe tracks in the sand! That little critter is actually a ground squirrel or California ground squirrel (common in California and Oregon...recently expanded its habitat to Washington, too).
