On July 9th, the sun erupted in a series of strong solar flares, which sent out waves of charged particles, known as coronal mass ejections (CMEs), into space. These flares are classed as (weakest to strongest) B, C, M, and X, with each having 9 separate sub classes ranging from 1-9. The latest flares from these sunspots are all in the 'M' class. While not the most powerful, they are still very strong. But, they're not headed in our direction.
Check out the massive sunspots!
