Prep Basketball 12-4-2012: Crescent Valley out of Corvallis visited Eugene sporting three basketball teams to face the Churchill Lancers. Churchill, widely becoming known as a basketball powerhouse, was ready for the challenge. Both the Freshman and JV Teams opened up with wins against their Northern Rivals but they were just a launching pad for the devastation the Churchill Varsity had in store for their Maroon and Gold uniformed guests. Churchill struck an easy double digit lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Starters were pulled out after the third quarter but Churchill still went on to route the visiting Raiders 92 - 30. Churchill made it to the state finals at Matt Knight Arena last year but were ousted early in competition. Returning the majority of their line up, they plan to return and "finish business" this year. An acquired 7 foot 1 inch Matt Hiyashi helps the Lancers this year as a transfer from Canada. Matt is a kind natured young man with a strong drive to learn and play the game of basketball. The Lancers face Silverton on the Road tomorrow and eventually face last years State Champs, Corvallis, at home before starting their Mid-Western League competition. The Lancers look forward to playing their cross town rivals Sheldon, whom they split a loss and a win on each other's home court last year. The plans this year are to go 2-0 verse the Irish... time will tell. Coached by AD and Head Coach Kelly Bokn, he likes the talents of his team and gives accolades to their play in their opening game. Join the Lancers in the "Dome" this year for a basketball extravaganza!!! Go Lancers
