Homeless residents of Walker House in front of painting donated in memory of Fred Claxton

Painting dedication and Open House

The board of Lebanon Emergency Shelter will host an Open House on Friday, July 11, at 7 p.m., for Walker House, a halfway/transitional house for homeless men, 286 Park Street, Lebanon. The house has five homeless residents and is on the corner of Park and Isabella at the north end of town. We are a brand-new endeavor and the only shelter in East Linn County.
We have been given a beautiful oil painting by George "Earl" Hamilton, a local artist, in memory of one of our residents, Fred Claxton, who passed away from organ failure from untreated diabetes during a bout of pneumonia.
We intend to dedicate the painting during a short ceremony at the Open House. The event is free and open to the public. We hope Fred's children will be able to attend as well.
We are also inviting Mayor Toombs and Lebanon City Council members. And we hope Senators Frank Morse & Fred Girod as well as Representative Sherrie Sprenger will be able to attend also.
Our board is represented on the Linn County 10-Yr Plan to Address Homelessness, a planning group chaired by Community Services Consortium, in cooperation with the Federal Government's and Gov. Kulongowski's 10-year goal to end homelessness.
Readers may visit our website, www.lebemsh.org, for more information on the shelter/transitional house.
