I spotted an aerie alongside Highway 101 between Gardiner and Florence a week ago. Today, this osprey was perched on the top of the old, dead pine tree, several yards above the aerie. I stopped to take photos and watched for half an hour but never saw its mate and didn't see anything peeking over the side of the aerie. I'm assuming the mate was fishing the lake below because this bird was keenly watching and was not easily distracted by me and my camera, as it was the last time I stopped there.
