9:35PM Friday. As specators were leaving the Freedon Festival fireworks display at Alton Baker Park, a fire broke out at the top of Skinner Butte. These pictures were taken from the south end of the DeFazio Bike Bridge, about half a mile away, before fire crews arrived and quickly extinguished the fire.

People need to take illegal fireworks a little more seriously. My friend and I were sitting on the grass hillside when the one that caused this fire landed about 15ft in front of us. The person responsible is lucky nobody was hurt.

Yes, absolutely. Some half-wit was launching bottle rockets on my street--I found two in the front yard and one way in the back. Sending fiery missiles into your neighbor's yard is no way to celebrate.

My father dug the hole for the cross that was placed on the butte in 1963 for a memorial for the vets, later the cross was removed due to a controversy over the cross burnings that were held upon the butte years earlier. Major secrets to be told!!
