September 16th, 1 AM--I was driving home and seen a strange light, stopping my car for a moment to watch it... I called my mother (even though I was just down the street from our house) to ask what she thought it might be. Neither of us were sure of what we were looking at, it just looked like a ball of flame floating across the sky. This light had a flicker to it every now and then (just like a candle), but it was orange and always bright. There were no blinking lights that we could tell of. There were no sounds that we could hear (like perhaps a helicopter). From where my mother and I stood, it moved from east to west before stopping in the sky somewhere near the North Star. It suddenly tracked straight back a little ways (no circling around) before switching direction again, returning to where it had first made a turn. It had hovered there a little while and then took off, what seemed much faster than it had been moving before, to the southeast where it finally disappeared into the horizon. I got out my cell phone just after I had pulled my car into the driveway to catch two pictures, even though they don't capture the true magnificence of the object. I tried to include the moon in the two pictures for size comparison and distance difference within 15+/- seconds. It startled a few of our neighbors also--they had asked us if we had been watching it.
