Today, Friday, May 15th, 2009, is "Peace Officers' Memorial Day". "Peace Officers' Memorial Day" was created in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy to honor those men & women in law enforcement who had given their lives in the performance of their duty. In 2008, Oregon had two Law Enforcement Officers die in the line of duty. As requested by the President of the United States, and in keeping with the protocol of the United States Flag Code, my wife and I are flying the Flags of the United States and the State of Oregon at Half-Staff. President Barack Obama's proclamation can be found HERE : http://www.whitehouse.gov/the_press_office/Presidential-Proclamation-Peace-Officers-Memorial-Day-and-Police-Week/.
