My husband and I decided to take a day hike up to Tamolitch Pool. We had never heard about it until he had read about the pool in one of his Oregon hiking books. Supposedly, the McKenzie river flows a little downstream from Sahalie and Koosah falls area and then sinks underground where lava had pooled over the McKenzie river around 1600 years ago. The river flows underground for a couple miles and then bubbles back out from the ground into Tamolitch pool. The water then flows out of the pool and the McKenzie starts back up again.
The water here is so crystal clear, and emerald green and blue! It is just breath-taking. I would recommend anyone to try the 2.2 mile hike up to Tamolich pool to view this Oregon wonder.
