Sister Monica Heeran Receives Award

Sister Monica Heeran Recognized as a Community Star

EUGENE, Ore., Sept. 22, 2009–Sister Monica Heeran received the first Community Star Award from Mercedes-Benz of Eugene this evening.
“Her combination of business acumen and nursing excellence have led to high quality health care for our community,” said Ralph Parshall, Mercedes general manager. “Sister’s energy and drive were instrumental in PeaceHealth’s growth during the 90s. After retiring, she went on to start the Volunteers in Medicine Clinic in Eugene, which annually provides10,000 patient visits to people who are working, but have no health insurance.”
The Community Star Award, which includes a Tiffany bowl and $1,000 contribution to the recipient’s charity, is presented annually to a community leader whose dedication to high standards and selfless service makes a significant difference in our community.
“Mercedes prides itself on being a leader in the auto industry, on establishing high standards, and on nurturing the best in our communities. The Community Star Award honors people in the community who share those values,” Parshall said. “Sister clearly represents the highest of standards and a commitment to excellence. Her tireless, dedicated commitment in founding and nurturing Volunteers in Medicine truly shows what one person can do for many in need.”
In addition to the Community Star Award, Sister Monica has received the 2001 Eugene Rotary Hult-Schafer Award, 2003 Eugene’s First Citizen, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Catholic Hospital Association.
