10:15am - 11:45am “Beginning Blade Balancing: Sword Dance for Belly Dancers” by Sabine. Learn sword dance
manipulations and unique combinations for new sword dancers, including balancing and isolations, sword presentation, spins and stops, sword care and balancing tips. All levels, bring head scarf and sword, some available. Sabine has been studying belly dance for over 20 years. She has developed her own style of “Dangerous Sword Dancing” blending classic Raks al Sayf with Tribal Belly Dance, Martial Arts styling and sword manipulations. Sabine teaches and performs as a soloist and with her troupe Tribalation!
Noon - 1:30 - “Easy Combos with Zills” by Sahara. Add some zing to your performance with finger cymbals!
Learn zill patterns blended with dance moves/combinations. Suitable for all levels. Sahara is a multi-award winning bellydance
instructor, promoter, and troupe director from Bend, Oregon. Sahara's layered breakdown of movement and combinations makes
her a favorite instructor for workshops and classes. Sahara teaches and directs two troupes in Bend, Sahara's Mirage and Sahara's Dream. Dream placed first in the troupe category at the 2009 Belly Dancer USA Competition.
1:45 - 3:15 - “Passionate Improvisation-Getting the Most Out of Your Movement” by Claudia
Learn important techniques that will bring YOU closer to the music and your audience closer to you. Explore perspectives in movement and its meaning; music and its message. Experience your dance as a powerful opportunity to communicate passion, emotion and musicality in a pure artistic form. Together we will create an atmosphere of inspiration! Widely regarded as one of the most expressive and naturally gifted dancers in the Pacific NW, Claudia has devoted over ten years in pursuit of the passionate, musical and living art-form that is Middle Eastern Belly Dance. She has won numerous awards and is an accomplished instructor and choreographer as well as an avid performer. Claudia is our Featured Performer for the MEDGE Fall Festival 2009.
3:30 - 5:00 - “Melaya Lovin’” by Janikea. We will dance to a popular song that tells the story of a respectable young Egyptian
woman who wears the melaya, a modesty wrap used as a prop in the theatrical dance created by Mahmoud Reda. Learn costume, styling, expression, interpretation and cultural context. Bring a melaya (any slightly stretchy fabric measuring 36" x 3yrds will do.) Some provided. Janikea is a world class performing artist with an extensive background in Polynesian dances, Hip Hop, Jazz, Yoga, and Kick Boxing. For over 13 years she has studied and performed with master musicians and dancers. Janikea's style reflects her knowledge and dedication to expanding her repertoire through continuing education in a multitude of dance genres.

6:30pm: Documentary Film “Belly: Sensual, Scarred, Sacred”
Cozmic Pizza. With special appearance by Cecila Rinn, Director. Cecilia & Chad Rinn of Full Tilt Boogie L.L.C. have been working on this documentary for 3 years. The film has been funded entirely from performances and sales of belly dance costumes created by Cecilia. She is not only the director of the film, but also a professional belly-dancer. Cecilia has been dancing for nearly 15 years and brings her love for the dance form to the screen in her first full length documentary. Dancers from all over the western United States are raving about the movie and how accurately it captures this unique, surprising community that plays such a large role in the lives of so many women.
